Alison Krauss: Jacob’s Dream

When I first heard this song, I five-starred it on my iTunes because I thought it sounded so pretty. After a couple times listening to it, though, I started to catch on to the words… and haven’t been able to listen to it since. SO. SAD! Heartwrenching, actually, especially if you’re the type to play out music video-esque scenes in your head.

Shane & Shane: Be Near

This song makes my cry for an entirely different reason than Jacob’s Dream. About a year ago, a family that I’m close to was losing their mother to cancer. For whatever reason, Be Near just kept playing in my head during that time, and considering the mind’s remarkable habit of vividly connecting memory to music, it is now so firmly intertwined with the emotions I experienced then that I always get at least a little choked up when I listen to it.
